Old Time on the Onion

The Summit School believes in sharing the joy of traditional music with people of all ages and backgrounds. Since its inception in 2007, it has fostered community through music by sponsoring concerts, classes, workshops and gatherings. These include:

  • Fall and spring evening classes for adults

  • A variety of smaller, one-day events, including The Mud Season Spectacular, Balfolk workshops and dance, and other dances and workshops.

  • Youth classes, located at schools in the past and currently at the Center for Arts and Learning in Montpelier

  • Summer Trad Camp for kids and Trad Camp Weekend for kids and their grownups

  • Old Time on the Onion, a yearly weekend gathering at Onion River Campground

  • Pickin’ in the Park, a pandemic series of informal jam sessions in Hubbard Park

  • Spice on Snow, a 4-day mid-winter festival that brought nationally known Cajun and Roots musicians to downtown Montpelier.
